Biography

Emma Nichelsen is a lawyer within Coleman Greig’s Family Law Team.

Emma has extensive experiences across all areas of family law, including complex parenting and property matters, child support matters, and binding financial agreements.

Her clients are from varied and diverse backgrounds, and she is well equipped to ensure that every client’s individual needs are addressed in their proceedings.

A strength and focus of Emma’s practice is advocacy in alternative dispute resolution, representing clients at mediations and other settlements discussions prior to or alongside Court proceedings.

Emma also has extensive experience in litigation advocacy, working for a judge in the Family Court of Australia for two years prior to working as a lawyer with a specialist family law firm in Western Sydney, and acting as a solicitor advocate for clients in hearings before both the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, and the Family Court of Australia.

Emma Nichelsen is an Associate working within Coleman Greig’s Family Law team.

Emma has represented numerous clients across all areas of family law, including complex parenting and property matters, child support matters, and binding financial agreements. Emma works on behalf of clients from varied and diverse backgrounds, and has experience ensuring that every client’s individual needs are addressed in their proceedings.

A strength and focus of Emma’s practice is advocacy in alternative dispute resolution, representing clients at mediations and other settlements discussions prior to or alongside Court proceedings. Alongside her family law experience, Emma has a particular passion for adoption work. Emma has experience with adult adoptions, adoptions of relatives (including stepchildren) and international adoptions.

Emma guarantees that all options are presented clearly to her clients. She works well with other practitioners in matters and is able to tailor her approach to each client’s individual needs.

Some examples of some recent matters that Emma has assisted clients with include:
- Obtaining parenting Orders for a non-biological parent, who commencing proceedings to have their child returned to Australia after being removed from the country without their consent. Emma attended all Court events for her client and was able to secure a positive outcome.
- A case where the other party made allegations that the business operated by Emma’s client was worth significantly more than it was. Emma secured Orders for that business to be valued, to remove the source of any allegations of the business being worth an excessive amount, or being used to hide relationship funds, and allow negotiations in the matter to progress.
Outside of her work as a lawyer, Emma enjoys investing in the next generation. Emma frequently teaches evening classes at Western Sydney University in the areas of Contract Law and Enterprise Law, and has previously volunteered as a tutor, debating coach and adjudicator for primary and high school students.

Outside of work, Emma enjoys reading and travelling.

Our daughter has had Emma Nichelsen as her family law lawyer since December 2018. Emma’s kindness and proficiency has had a positive impact on all our lives. We feel so fortunate that Emma has been our lawyer. She has earned our trust and respect. Emma is extremely knowledgeable, competent, well versed on how the court system works, and proficient in explaining it.
