Raymond Byrne

Raymond Byrne is a Principal Lawyer and Team Leader of Coleman Greig’s Family Law Team. He has been practising since his admission to the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia in 2012.

Ray began his legal career working with a Queensland firm while based in Sydney, commuting weekly before returning home to help build the firm’s Sydney presence. During this time, he also supervised the national Family Law team from Sydney, giving him broad exposure to complex matters and differing jurisdictional issues.

Family Law is Ray’s main area of practice, and he is focused on achieving the best possible outcome for his clients. He is a strong supporter of Alternative Dispute Resolution and will always explore negotiated solutions first, while remaining a firm and capable advocate when court proceedings are necessary.

Ray has also appeared in criminal and civil jurisdictions, and his advocacy skills, particularly in cross‑examination, are a standout strength. He also clerked for a barrister during his studies, further strengthening his advocacy skills.

With more than 30 years of business and customer service experience, Ray understands the pressures clients face and works tirelessly to guide them through what are often difficult and emotional legal processes. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 7 children and 15 grandchildren, and has a long‑standing passion for Rugby Union.
