Biography

Abinaya Sundar is a Lawyer in Coleman Greig’s Family Law team, working across the full spectrum of this area of law.

Abinaya appreciates how stressful and difficult Family Law matters can be for clients. She minimises stress where possible by acknowledging her clients’ feelings and the unique complexities of their situation. An excellent communicator, Abinaya explains her clients’ rights and the options available to them.

Favouring a collaborative approach, Abinaya has worked with clients across various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. This includes advising clients in Tamil (an Indian language). Abinaya has also worked with clients residing interstate.

Prior experience working for an Independent Children’s Lawyer, provided Abinaya with insight into the various perspectives that can be applied in parenting matters.

In her spare time, Abinaya enjoys playing squash tournaments and participating in parkrun. She also volunteers with the United Indian Association.

  • Working with clients with Legal Aid funding (both in Court and mediation)
  • Contravention Hearings Applications for Review and mediations
  • Acting in complex parenting matters involving mental health, serious drug and alcohol issues, domestic violence allegations, relocation and Hague Convention
  • Acting in property matters involving domestic and international properties, trusts and companies
  • Preparing and advising during and post-separation financial agreements
  • Preparing and advising for sperm donor agreements and surrogacy agreements
  • Intercountry and intrafamily adoption including acting in an intercountry adoption matter and assisting her client to adopt a child from Thailand
  • Acting in a parenting matter for the Applicant where the Respondent was withholding the children. An outcome was secured which allowed the client to not only reinstate time but also increased their time with the children
  • Assisting clients in obtaining Parentage Orders for their children born via surrogacy

  • Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Business (major in Accounting) from the University of Technology Sydney
  • Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law
  • Member of Law Society of NSW
