Just 50km west of Sydney CBD and easily accessible via public transport, Penrith is Australia’s eighth largest city. With an estimated population of over 200,000 people (forecast to grow to 256,051 by 2036), Penrith currently accounts for over 2.5% of the State’s population. 

Since the turn of the century, Penrith has enjoyed a higher than State average rate of job growth. The health care and social assistance industries are currently the region’s largest employers, generating over 11,000 local jobs in 2016/17.

Penrith’s economy is driven by a range of constantly evolving industries, including manufacturing, construction, retail trade, and education and training. The construction industry makes up almost 25% of the region’s registered businesses.

Western Sydney City Deal

The Western Sydney City Deal is a 20 year agreement between the three levels of government to transform Sydney’s outer west, creating the ‘Western Parkland City’. The deal includes commitments to improve connectivity, employment opportunities, skills and education, planning and housing, liveability and environment, and governance for those living within the region.

Western Sydney Airport

Set to open in 2026, the new airport at Badgerys Creek will not only provide an influx of local jobs, increased industry and investment opportunities, but will open the region up to both the rest of Australia and the world.

North South Rail Link

The North South Rail Link will connect the city with the new Western Sydney Airport, allowing residents to take advantage of new jobs and services. The link will provide opportunities for employment, innovation and economic growth, as well as encouraging further economic investment in the region.
