Child Support Law

The breakdown of a family unit is a very difficult time for a child, or children, and there are numerous factors that need to be taken into account to ensure that decisions are made in the child’s best interests. When parents separate, proper arrangements need to be made for the ongoing financial, physical and emotional support of their children.

The financial obligations of parents to provide for their children are governed by the Child Support Scheme. Child Support is payable for all children living in Australia (up to the age of 18 years) whose parents have separated, whether or not the parents were married to each other. Our family lawyers are able to provide qualified advice and assistance with respect to child support obligations, and help you to establish private Child Support Agreements, or assist in your dealings with the Child Support Agency.

The Coleman Greig family law team also has significant experience and expertise with regard to issues that affect children. We have represented numerous clients with parenting issues in contested Court hearings and some of the lawyers within our team are also members of the Panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers.

Our primary goal is to minimise risk to children and ensure their rights are considered at all times, whilst at the same time balancing care and compassion with the determination and expertise required to obtain the best results.
