What a year this has been! It’s hard to believe that it has been over six months since we hosted our last event, the International Women’s Day lunch featuring the incredible Rosie Batty at The Waterview, where we raised over $9,000 for Country Women’s Association (CWA) of NSW. At that time, we were also hoping to showcase Rosie Batty at a major IWD fundraising event in Penrith to support The Haven Nepean Women’s Shelter but unfortunately that was not to be.

The Women in Business team is missing the opportunity to bring our network together in person and we are all hoping for a return to face-to-face events in 2021.  In the meantime, we wanted to develop something that would help to keep our amazing network connected, inspired and ready to take on the world.  As a result we are delighted to be launching our VIRTUAL Inspiration Hour!

The Inspiration Hour is a brand new Women in Business initiative that provides an opportunity for you to take some time to sit back and discover real-life stories of women who will inspire, empower and motivate you to rise above these uncertain times and keep challenging yourself. All from the comfort of your own office, home or wherever you might be on the day!!

So what better way to launch the Inspiration Hour than with a focus on health and wellbeing. Our inaugural session, “Resilience and Wellbeing – Stories from the COVID Trenches” brought to you in partnership with the The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) will bring two very different, yet equally inspiring women together to discuss the pandemic from their unique perspectives and the lessons we can all take from their experiences.

Dr Caroline West
Dr Caroline West is one of Australia’s best-known media doctors, having appeared on Catalyst, The Drum, Beyond 2000 and 60 Minutes among others. At the start of 2020, Dr West was ready to move to Bangalore, India but the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Now working on the frontline with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Broken Hill, running respiratory clinics and managing patients with COVID at their homes, Caroline has gained an insight into how people are really feeling, and how we can stay well in such uncertain times with a particular focus on mental health. Read more.

Professor Sarah Palmer
With the rapid spread of COVID-19 across the globe, Professor Sarah Palmer from the WIMR’s Centre for Virus Research has pivoted her lifelong research aimed at stopping the spread of HIV, to leading WIMR’s development of a COVID-19 vaccine targeting the ageing population.  WIMR is the only institute in Australia dedicated to developing a COVID-19 vaccine for this demographic and is well-placed for success due to the team’s expertise in vaccine development. Professor Palmer will share her personal story and passion for HIV research, her experiences to date researching COVID-19 and what it will take to fight this current pandemic. Read more.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from these amazing speakers and focus on the issues that matter to you!
